Grading: Sync Gradebooks in Schoology and PowerSchool

To sync grades from Schoology to PowerSchool:

A. Set up your PowerSchool categories. Without this step, you will not be able to map to the proper category. Categories typically carry over from year to year, so you may not have to create all categories. Then, set up your PowerSchool Category Weighting (if you want your grade book to be weighted).

B. Set up Schoology Grade Categories and Schoology Category Weighting (if you want your grade book to be weighted).

C. Map grading categories. Before you can sync individual assignments from Schoology to PowerSchool, grading categories in each system will need to be mapped. This only needs to be done at the beginning of each semester or whenever a change has been made to your grading categories. Please note that different courses will need to be configured separately. 

1. In Schoology, navigate to a course.
2. Click on the PowerSchool button on the bottom left menu.
   
   
   
3. Click the Configuration tab. Ensure that the Automatically shorten assignment titles option is check-marked. Horizontally line up each category so that the appropriate Schoology category is mapped to the appropriate PowerSchool Category. (Ex: Homework >> homework) 
   
4. Click Save Changes.

D. Sync Grades

1. To sync all changes, click the sync icon in the upper right corner of the Gradebook.
2. To sync individual assignments, click on the sync status log button as shown above, then click Sync to the right of the assignment. The action will read as Successful when the assignment is updated in PowerSchool.
   

FAQ

Q: What should I do if a student turns in an assignment late?
A: After updating the student’s grades in Schoology, click the "Sync All Changes" button located in the upper right corner of the Schoology gradebook.

Q: If I click sync once, will my assignments and grades automatically update with future changes?
A: No, each time you update grades, an assignment name, due date, or point value of an assignment, you will need to Sync again in PowerSchool.

Q: If I make changes directly in PowerTeacher Pro, will Schoology also update?
A: No. Grade syncing only works in one direction, from the Schoology to the PowerSchool gradebook. 

Q: If I delete a previously synced assignment in Schoology, will PowerTeacher Pro automatically update? 

A: If you choose to delete a previously synced assignment in Schoology, you would also need to delete the assignment in PowerSchool.
